OVERDRAFT PROTECTION
SchoolsFirst FCU offers three options for overdraft protection:
Share Transfers
If you regularly carry a balance in your savings or money market account, you can use these funds to cover overdrafts. So, if you happen to spend more than what's in your checking account, the funds you need will automatically transfer over from your savings or money market.
What you need
- SchoolsFirst FCU savings or Liquid Advantage Money Market account.1
Helpful features
- Use this service for no fee.
How to set it up
- LOG IN TO ONLINE BANKING
- Select Overdraft Protection from Account Services.
- Select the share(s) you'd like to use to cover any overdrafts.
Overdraft Protection Loan
If you want to make sure your checking account is covered for your debit card transactions and the checks you write, an Overdraft Protection Loan might be the right call. It acts as a line of credit that deposits the funds you need if your checking balance can't cover a transaction.

Debit Card Overdraft Protection
If you don't have enough in your checking account to make a purchase with your Debit Mastercard®, this option will automatically cover it — for a fee. It isn't a loan, and it won't take money out of another account. Just keep in mind that the fees associated with this option depend on the transaction and amount overdrawn.
What you need
- Opt in to use this service.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have your Membership in good standing.
Helpful features2
- Fees are only applied if your account is negative more than $10 and the transaction is also over $10.3
- Fees are capped at three fees per day, per share at $22 for every transaction.
How to set it up
- LOG IN TO ONLINE BANKING
- Opt in for the service.
You can also sign up for Debit Card Overdraft Protection at a local branch or by completing the consent form and mailing to:
SchoolsFirst FCU, Attn: Savings Account Administration
P.O. Box 11544
Santa Ana, CA 92711-9807
- Money market transfers are subject to a limit of up to six electronic transfers per month.
- Debit Card Overdraft protection fees: we will charge a $22 fee each time we pay an overdraft. A fee is charged when the transaction is over $10 and your account is negative more than $10. We limit overdraft fees to a maximum of three (3) overdraft fees per day. Negative shares must be paid immediately. Must be at least 18 years old to opt-in for this service. Whether your overdrafts will be paid is discretionary and we reserve the right not to pay. For example, we typically do not pay overdrafts if your account is not in good standing.
- The assessment of overdraft fees for debit card transactions is determined by the "available" balance in your account, as opposed to the "actual" balance. Your account is considered overdrawn when the available balance in your account is negative (less than $0). Please see your "Statement of Fees and Disclosure & Agreement of Terms and Conditions" for important additional information.
